Description of Manufacturing Process
Important equipment in an extrusion processing line are the mixer, extruder, dryer and coating equipment. We offer all this equipment and the matching connecting equipment in various capacities, in the range from 100 up to 1.000 kg/hr snacks capacity. All equipment must match well, no oversized and therefore energy wasting equipment.
In the mixer the raw materials are mixed and brought to the desired moisture level. The mix is then transferred to the extruder hopper; a level indicator ensures that the extruder does not run empty. In the extruder the raw materials are pressed through a die using high-pressure build-up by the screw and high temperature created by shear between sleeve and screw.
The pressure drop at the die causes the snack to expand and the face cutters set the desired snack length and mass. After extrusion the snacks are baked for extra crispness and for shelf-life.
They are then coated with palm oil, and then with flavor powder.
Coating takes place in the rotating coating drum. Now the snacks are ready to be packed; this is best done immediately. It is recommended that a buffer silo is installed between packing equipment and processing line, mainly to overcome the differences in operational speed.
Direct extrusion is the process whereby grits (of i.e. corn) is forced through a die into the final snack-shape, and flavorings are added to produce a tasty snack.

HOW DOES THE CEREAL FLAKES PRODUCTION LINE WORK?
The dry ingredients (premix grains, minerals and vitamins, salt, milk powder, emulsifiers, …) are fed, mixed and conveyed in a preconditioner which hydrates and heats the mixture to start the gelatinization. The partially cooked product is introduced into the twin-screw extruder: the corotating screws mix the pre-moistened powders with a malt syrup, injected directly into the extruder ; the heat generated by viscous dissipation and the controlled shear generated by the screws geometry provide the required thermo-mechanical treatment to the preparation. An advanced cooling system precisely adjusts the temperature in each barrel module. The homogeneous, pasty and cooked product is pushed throughout the die which forms continuous expanded products.
They are then transferred to a dryer / toaster and cooled before being stored and packed. An additional coating operation may be applied to add,- for example, a sweet syrup, before drying and cooling.
